Get ready for the most unusual day trip you can take from Chișinău. We invite you to cross the invisible “border” into Transnistria, a breakaway region from Moldova where time seems to have frozen in the Soviet era. It’s a safe, fascinating experience that is sure to make you think.
What will we see and do?
Bender (Tighina): Our first stop is the city of Bender, where we’ll visit the impressive 16th-century Ottoman fortress. Our guide will tell you about the fortress’s turbulent history and its strategic role. We will also see memorials dedicated to recent conflicts.
Tiraspol – The Soviet Capital: We continue to Tiraspol, the region’s capital. Here, the feeling of being “back in the USSR” is at its strongest. We’ll walk along wide boulevards and see the main attractions:
The statue of Lenin, which still stands proudly in front of the Supreme Soviet building (the local Parliament).
A Soviet T-34 tank, now a monument.
Numerous hammer and sickle symbols preserved on public buildings.
An Unforgettable Experience
You’ll get a chance to see how a “country that doesn’t exist” on official maps functions, with its own currency (the Transnistrian ruble), its own government, and its own army. This tour isn’t just about seeing monuments; it’s about understanding a complex reality and feeling an atmosphere you won’t find anywhere else in Europe.
